Houdini Inc. is delighted to announce that they have won a Double Gold award in the 2015 North of the Gate Wine Competition for their 2012 Pinot Noir. "It's a huge win for us and our brand because it is our first year producing Pinot Noir." Founded in 1984, Houdini Inc. celebrates its 31st anniversary later this year.
There was a 17 day fermentation, including a 6 day cold soak, in an open top fermenter with three punch downs per day except during the cold soak. With such positive results, Houdini plans on treating the next release the same way.
Many of the wines entered in this prestigious competition are often medal winners as they come from great wine making regions such as Napa and Sonoma. Typically less than 2% of the wines entered will win a Double Gold and the Pinot Noir category has the most entries and is therefore quite competitive. In order to receive the Double Gold, all judges must give the wine a Gold as their initial reaction with no conversation discussing the wine influencing anyone's rating.
